SleuthbookStart free

Every shop paid. Every MSC accounted for.

You shop for a dozen MSCs, each paying on its own schedule through PayPal with memos that say nothing. Sleuthbook is the ledger that matches every deposit to the shops it covers and catches what came in short.

Start free

Sign in with your email — your ledger is on every device you use, not trapped in one phone.

The point: reconciliation in 60 seconds

1

Log the shop

Date, MSC, fee, reimbursement, time spent — logged in the parking lot before you drive off.

2

Log the deposit

A PayPal transfer with a memo like “PAYMENT 78421”. Enter it as it landed.

3

See the match

The app finds the shops that add up, reads shop numbers out of the memo, and flags anything paid short — by MSC.

Free. All of it.

  • Payment matching — one deposit to the exact shops it covers
  • Short-pay and overpay discrepancies, by payer
  • Overdue view with copy-ready chase summaries
  • Reports: period summary, monthly, mileage & time
  • 1099 compare — your log next to the form you received
  • Calendar (.ics) file import
  • Unlimited shops and mscs
  • Saved to your account — phone, laptop, any device
  • Sign in with your email. No password to forget
  • CSV import with column mapping
  • CSV export of everything, any time
  • Period totals on the dashboard

Sleuthbook is free while we find out whether it’s worth building on. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it does — and your ledger stays yours, exportable as CSV, either way.

Fair questions

Where is my data?
In your account, on our servers, locked to your sign-in — nobody else’s account can read it, and we don’t browse it (the privacy policy spells out the narrow support exception). Export everything as CSV any time, and delete your account (and every record with it) yourself in Settings — no email required.
What happens on a new phone?
Sign in. Your whole ledger is there — that’s the point of the account. A lost phone, a cleared browser, or a laptop upgrade never costs you a season of records.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Every feature — the matcher, the overdue view, reports, calendar import — is free, and there is no paid tier to upgrade to. We never ask for a card. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it does, and your ledger stays yours and exportable as CSV either way.
Then what’s the catch?
No ads, no data broker, nothing sold — the privacy policy is the binding version and it says the same thing. Sleuthbook is one of several small tools from Long Tail Software LLC; it’s free because it’s new, and we’d rather have people using it than a price on it.
Does it do my taxes?
No. It keeps an accurate ledger of what you earned, what you were paid, your miles and your time — and exports clean totals per payer for whoever does your taxes. It does not provide tax, legal, or financial advice.
