Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 12, 2026
Sleuthbook is operated by Long Tail Software LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company (“we”, “us”). This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect when you use Sleuthbook and what we do with it.
Your account and your ledger
Sleuthbook requires an account, identified by your email address. Everything you log — mscs, shops, payments, amounts, notes — is stored on our servers, tied to your account, so it’s available on any device you sign in on. Access is locked to your sign-in: each account can read and write only its own records, enforced at the database layer. We don’t browse, analyze, or monetize the contents of your ledger; we access it only if you ask us to while helping you with a problem.
We host this data with Supabase (our database and sign-in provider), on servers in the United States. Sign-in is by one-time email code or link — we never store a password.
Export and deletion — self-serve, always
- Export: download your entire ledger as CSV any time, in Settings.
- Deletion: delete your account yourself in Settings. That immediately and permanently removes the account and every record saved to it from our live systems — no email to us required. Copies inside our rolling encrypted database backups age out within days and are never restored selectively.
What else we collect
- Basic analytics. Anonymous usage statistics — pages visited, approximate region, browser type, and which features get used (as counts and small buckets, never amounts or text you typed). We use a cookieless analytics service, we do not build profiles of individual visitors, and we do not use advertising trackers.
Payments
There aren’t any. Sleuthbook is free, nothing inside it is for sale, and there is no checkout and no payment processor — so we hold no billing records about you at all.
Contact form and email
The contact form is run by a hosted form provider; what you type there (and your email address, so we can reply) is stored with that provider and forwarded to us. If you email us at support@sleuthbook.com, we keep the correspondence so we can reply. We don’t add you to any list. The optional “get notified” box on the landing page stores your email with our newsletter provider solely to send that one announcement; unsubscribe is one click.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent any data to anyone.
- We don’t read or mine your ledger for any purpose of ours.
- We don’t run third-party advertising networks on Sleuthbook.
- We don’t send marketing email unless you explicitly asked for it.
- We never ask for — and the product has no place to store — payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or government ID numbers.
Cookies and sign-in storage
Sleuthbook uses no tracking cookies. Your browser keeps a sign-in token locally so you stay signed in between visits; signing out clears it.
Children
Sleuthbook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes won’t apply retroactively.
